Since the New Delhi riots back in February 2020 and (Middle-men disguised as Farmer), Farmer’s Protests went violent back in January 26,2021. Twitter allegedly let the Fake News spread all over its platform, mostly funded by anti-India organizations, individuals, and banned terrorist organizations like the Khalistan supporters. Twitter refused to take down the harmful, fake, and anti-India tweets even after direct orders from both the government and courts. Twitter said it was against their policy which allows them to “Protect and Preserve Freedom of Speech.”
But, it was Twitter that banned former US President Donald J. Trump due to the Capitol Hill riots. Then they realized that the spread of Fake News is against national security. But what about India’s national security? In that question, they went numb.
In February 2021, India’s IT Ministry had ordered to take a few steps to ensure the Indian users can register to complain against any user or content spreading on the social media platforms. These steps were mainly taken to curb fake news spread and ensure national security in cyberspace. These steps included appointments of a dedicated grievance officer who should be an Indian resident, removing harmful and sensual contents fast, and many more. The deadline for implementation was May 31, 2021. But except for Koo, the Indian micro-blogging website, no other social media has taken the liberty to follow the law. WhatsApp and Twitter went to court and got some slaps so far. But they surely wanted more from the Government, Justice System, and finally from the people of India.
So, this morning, Twitter had removed the “Blue Tick,” the indication of a verified Twitter account, from the Honorable Vice-President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. Twitter said they did it due to more than six months of inactivity, as the last tweet was posted from this account was on July 23, 2020. But Twitter didn’t do this stuff to other inactive accounts having a Blue Tick, for example, Late Smt. Sushma Swaraj Ji And Late Shri. Arun Jaitley Ji passed away 2 years ago. Even our beloved Sushant Singh Rajput’s Twitter account is showing the Blue Tick. So, the government is probably planning to drag Twitter back in court for this mischief. But, it is believed that the slap from the honorable court into Twitter’s face a few days ago was forgotten by this social media platform.
Besides, the Honorable Vice President, Twitter has also unverified and, after the backlash, the micro-blogging website has restored the status of several top RSS leaders, including Sanghchalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat Ji.
On further digging, yesterday, Twitter removed a tweet from the current honorable President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. So, the government of Nigeria took swift action on banning or, in better words, indefinite suspension of Twitter. The officials from Twitter said they will look into this very sensitive matter. Nigeria is one of the biggest markets of Africa and the most populated country in Africa. Now, Twitter should think about what India can do if a country like Nigeria can do this to them.
A few days ago, Twitter also marked a tweet of BJP’s national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra as ‘Manipulated Media.’ Dr. Patra had shared an alleged toolkit which he claimed was made by the Indian National Congress party to undermine India’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic and spread negative messages against India. But Twitter didn’t want to remove the Anti-India toolkit shared by Greta Thunberg back in February.
For years, these big-tech and social media giants always had their ways, not the other ways, and censored contents for years and preached about Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Expression just like the Chinese Communist Party advocates democracy in China and elsewhere. But as governments and common people are finding out the dark truths hidden inside them, the tech giants may soon lose their grasp over the world.
